Buhmann often refers to his abstractions as portraits and if you squint -you start to see eyes, heads, lips etc... though earlier paintings contained figurative elements, the newer abstractions have all but abandoned easy reading, though sometimes Buhmann positions readable images such as cigarettes or hats to assist in developing his narrative.

Though the painting presented here is ... "produced with traditional means, Buhmann intuitively applied color to canvases, and gradually shaped the components through layering and restructuring.... From a distance, the paintings appear machine-made in their precision, but closer inspection reveals traces of his hand and the construction. "I don't want to make graphic designs—it's still painting," he asserts. "It's about the process of painting on a formal level."

ROTATION
is a planned series of short two week exhibitions focusing on a single work. The long narrow gallery space will be truncated by a viewing wall which can be seen easily from the sidewalk. After the 2 week presentation, the single work will rotate to the back of the gallery to be repositioned into a larger group show as the series continues...
Upcoming "ROTATION" artists will be announced soon, while Katrin Plavcak has been rotated to the back gallery for continued viewing.
