Carmen Brucic was invited by Bishop Hermann Glettler to create this year's Lenten cloth to cover the baroque altar of the Univerity Church St. Johannes Nepomuk in Innsbruck. Following the catholic tradition it will cover the altar to concentrate on the spoken word and self-reflection during the Lent until Easter Sunday.

The veil, entitled tired, shows the portrait of Georgian activist David Apakidze, whom the artist photographed in the summer of 2021 in his hometown Tbilisi.... David is representing the young and queer people facing repressions. He is one among five protagonists of Carmen Brucic's private stages (2021), a photographic series about activists who were part of a universe, part of a revolution that came to an unexpected halt because of a global pandemic. The Protagonists are all related to the famous Night Club Bassiani in Georgia’s Capital Tbilisi, where the young and queer community could meet freely und unrestrictedly till a police raid and attacks from far-right groups and religious unions threatened the community and the idea of unity, freedom and social justice.

Carmen Brucic produced the series for ?Tbilisi Photo Festival while being on residency in Georgia last summer, on the initiative of ? Magic Carpets Austria and ? Openspace Innsbruck.

"In der Universitätskirche St. Johannes ... ist bis Ostern ein von der Tiroler Künstlerin Carmen Brucic gestaltetes „Altarbild“ zu sehen, das gerade angesichts der aktuellen Ereignisse in der Ukraine zutiefst berührt. Entstanden ist das zum 4,50 mal 3 Meter großen Digitalprint auf Stoff aufgeblasene Foto im vergangenen Sommer im georgischen Tbilisi, wo Brucic fünf AktivistInnen porträtiert hat, die als Teil der dortigen „Rave Revolution“ tanzend und performend für Freiheit und Gerechtigkeit auf die Straße gehen.
Auch David, den Brucic auf dem Altarbild zum Sinnbild des Leidenden schlechthin stilisiert. Erschöpft von der Verfasstheit der Welt, gelähmt im Zustand der Resignation und gleichzeitig voller Hoffnung, wie das V suggeriert, das sein von seinem zarten Körper abgewinkelter Arm mit diesem bildet. Um sich komplett nackt in seiner ganzen Verletzlichkeit auszuliefern, inklusive seiner Tattoos und Narben, der nur halb verheilten Spuren der Autoaggression auf den Armen von David, der halb Ukrainer, halb Georgier ist.
„tired?“ nennt Brucic ihr Bild, das in subversiv zärtlicher Poesie an das widerständige Potential in uns allen appelliert, beseelt vom Wunsch, auf diese Weise gesellschaftliche und politische Veränderungsprozesse anzuzetteln."
