is a transdisciplinary project including participation by women who work in various artistic and cultural fields. Workshops during the exhibition, a regular insert within Mil Folhas, the supplement of the daily Portuguese newspaper Público and a symposium will force an exchange between the participants and those who are interested in participating, involvement in the topics raised and a sharing of their experience and knowledge....

in the production of its spaces, in its structures and its contributions allows specific transformations of the role of women within societies to be reflected in the established discourses within the cultural, social as well as in the scientific field. This project takes into account the increasingly active participation of women. Porto 2001 brings with it the exceptional and particular circumstances of a European Capital of Culture. This extraordinary opportunity allows FIRST STORY... to create a situation in which a variety of cultural practices and research projects in the field of Cultural and Gender Studies are introduced, which are as well based in Direct Action.
