Mit der Ausweitung ihrer ökonomischen Interessen in den zentral- und osteuropäischen Bereich verfolgt die Erste Bank-Gruppe auch die Neukonzeption einer Kunstsammlung, die Werke aus diesem Bereich beinhaltet. Dabei ist das Sammlungsprofil auf innovative Positionen innerhalb der Kunst der osteuropäischen Länder seit den 1960er Jahren ausgerichtet. Die Sammlung umfasst international relevante Werke, die unter der kommunistischen Herrschaft dieser Länder keine öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit und Anerkennung finden konnten, die aber zeigen, welches avantgardistische Potenzial die inoffizielle Kunst dieser Länder beinhaltete.... Die Sammlung der Erste Bank-Gruppe stellt damit ein bislang vernachlässigtes Kapitel internationaler Kunstentwicklung vor und leistet deren Neubewertung im gegenwärtigen Kunstdiskurs.

In conjunction with the expansion of ist economic interests into Central- and Eastern Europe, the Erste Bank-Group also pursued new concepts in regard to it´s art collection partly made up of works from the region, with a particular focus on innovative positions of East European art since the nineteen-sixties. The collection contains works of international relevance which under Communist rule failed to gain the pbulic attention and recognition they deserved but which nevertheless preserved the avant-gardist potential of the unofficial art produced in these countries. As such, the collection of the Erste Bank-Group introduced the viewer to a previously neglected chapter of international art development, revaluating it in the light of contemporary art discourse.
