READY NOW  stellt die Frage nach kultureller Identität des Einzelnen gegenüber medialer Instrumentalisierung und staatlich verordnetem oder religiös gefordertem Kollektivismus, hinter denen die Unverwechselbarkeit des Individuums verschwindet.

Die neue  Arbeit von Barbara Caveng ist ein Teppich als Installationsprojekt mit den Maßen 4,5 * 2,5 Metern, welcher unter der Mitwirkung einer breiten internationalen Öffentlichkeit innerhalb eines halben Jahres geknüppft wurde. In seiner formalen Aufteilung entspricht er einem Gebetsteppich, im Inneren zeigt er das Motiv des schwimmenden Flugzeugträgers Abraham Lincoln und dem von Soldatden gebildeten Schriftzug Ready Now.

The DNA Die Neue Aktionsgalerie invites to the opening of

BARBARA CAVENG

on friday the 16th of January 2004 at 7 pm.

It poses the question of personal cultural identity as against the collectivism as instrumentalised by the media and state or religious sponsors – behind which the unmistakability of the individual vanishes. The centre piece of the project is a carpet 4.5 * 2.5 metres in size, which was woven by 250 participants from 53 countries. The design of the carpet resembles the oriental prayer mat and in details sails the aircraft carrier “Abraham Lincoln” with the words Ready Now formed by soldiers.
