Gernot Wieland ist ein in Berlin lebender Künstler, dessen Filme, Zeichnungen, Lecture Performances und Installationen das Bedürfnis menschlicher Zugehörigkeit innerhalb von ererbten sozialen, politischen und psychologischen Prozessen kommentieren. In seinen Filmen werden Traumlandschaften und Geschichten erzählt und Realität und Neurosen der Erinnerung als Paradigmen und Beispiele dargestellt, um die problematische Natur von Ausnahmen und Normen zu thematisieren, die für Macht- und Kontrollsysteme wesentlich sind.... Das Gedächtnis spielt eine zentrale Rolle bei der Produktion von Bedeutungen, die oft unvollständig bleiben und Raum für poetische Prozesse bieten, um das soziale Gefüge in eine nicht-kapitalistische Form des Austauschs zu verweben. Seine Arbeiten untersuchen Sachverhalte und Fiktionen mit Humor und Aufrichtigkeit. 2019 gewann er den EMAF Medienkunstpreis der Deutschen Filmkritik beim European Media Art Festival.

Gernot Wieland is an artist based in Berlin whose films, drawings, lecture performances and installations provide a commentary on the need for a sense of human belonging within inherited social, political and psychological processes. In his films, dreamscapes, storytelling, reality and neuroses of recollection are figured as paradigms and examples to address the problematic nature of exceptions and norms essential to systems of power and control. Memory plays a central role in the production of meanings often left incomplete, opening space for poetic processes to weave the fabric of the social in a non-capitalist form of exchange. The works examine conditions of fact and fiction with humour and sincerity. Wieland was 2019 Winner of the EMAF Media Art Award of the German Film Critics (European Media Art Festival).
