Solo exhibition
22.08.2019 - 21.09.2019
Austrian Embassy Bangkok, Krung Thep / Prathet Thai
From 22 August until 21 September 2019, the Austrian Embassy was showing works of the Austrian textile and visual artist Oliva Jhingran for one month at its multipurpose room. The exhibition named "Patches & Stitches by Olivia" was a showcase of 16 patchwork and freestyle quilting pieces of the last ten years of Olivia's creative work. Olivia Jhingran was born and raised in Austria, but is currently living in Bangkok. She is a self-taught textile artist, a trained seamstress and fashion designer.... Over the last thirty years she has made strong ties to India and, in particular, Indian silk fabrics. She loves working with silk and colors, having started with making quilts from vintage saris. She has since experimented with various styles of innovative fabric art. Her motives are strongly influenced by Asian cultures, landscapes and religions. The Embassy hosted an exclusive exhibition opening with a Vin d'honneur on 22 August at 7.00 p.m. where Olivia Jhingran presented her work to the interested audience.
