Follow My, Follow My, Lead…

Räumlich-Skulpturales verschränkt sich mit fotografischem Sammelgut. Wer erhebt das Wort? Welchem Schritt wird gefolgt? In Vorbildern gedacht, mitgezogen. Insignien der Bemächtigung versus selbstbestimmtes Rauschen. Dann wird auch mal zurück geblättert. Gedacht werden Vorstellungen von Autoritäts- und Machtstrukturen im Dialog von Repräsentation und organisiertem Raum.

Elf Monate nach der Angelobung blieben die Bilderrahmen in den 9600 US - amerika­nischen Amtsgebäuden leer. Das offizielle Portrait des 45.... Präsidenten Donald Trump ließ auf sich warten. Einzelne Einrichtungen wie das Department of Veterans Affairs hatten sich übergangsweise für ein anderes Foto entschieden, um Aufregung unter den Veteranen zu vermeiden. Auch weitere repräsentative Bilder des Kabinetts blieben aus – unter anderem, weil sie dem Präsidenten nicht zuvorkommen wollten. Ein Monat nach dem Erscheinen eines Artikels in der Washington Post im Oktober 2017 über das fehlende Portrait, wurde das lang erwartete Foto schließlich publiziert.

Warum zögert einer der mächtigsten Präsidenten der Welt, dessen Erfolg auf der eigene Marke basiert, sein offizielles Bild im Land zu verbeiten? Das Szenario lässt Raum für Sepkulationen offen.

Im Lateinischen bedeutet auctoritas Einfluss, Würde und Ansehen. Im alten Rom wurde Menschen aufgrund ihrer Leistung oder ihrer starken persönlichen Haltung auctoritas zugesprochen. Macht alleine erzeugt dabei noch keine Autorität – der Vorschuss an Ansehen und Vertrauen erfolgt freiwillig. eine In Zeiten globaler Umbrüche sehnen sich die Menschen nach einem neuen Führungsstil, der für Vertrauen, Sicherheit und Verbundendheit steht. In der Ausstellung werden gesellschaftiche Bilder, Erzählungen und Strukturen befragt, die mit dem Bedürfnis nach Leitfiguren und den Formen politischer Repräsentation in Verbindung stehen.

FOLLOW MY, FOLLOW MY, LEAD…

Spacially sculptural with collected photographical goods. Who is entitled to speak? Whose footsteps are being followed? Imagined role models, to be tagged along. Insigniae of power vs. self-empowered buzzing. And then the pages turn. Being thought as conceptions of authority- and powerstructures in dialogue with representation and organized space.

Eleven months after the inauguration the picture frames inside the 9600 official buildings still remained empty. The official portrait of the 45th US-President Donald Trump had been a long time coming. Meanwhile singular institutions like the Department of Veteran Affairs had decided on transitional solutions in order to avoid within their clients. Due to the missing image, the representative portraits of other members of the cabinet had been on hold too – respectively because they wanted to avoid to forestall the president. One month past the release of an article in the Washington Post on the missing portrait in October 2017 the expected photograph was finally published.

So why would one of the most powerful presidents of the world, whose success is significantly related to him as a brand, hesitate to forward his official portrait within his own country? The case prompts speculations.

The latin auctoritas means influence, dignity and reputation. In ancient Rome people where granted auctoritas due to their achievements or strong personal attitude. The structure of power, as gained through a hierarchical position or dependance, therefore opposed the concept of authority. In times of global radical changes people seem to be longing for a new type of leadership associated with trust, security and connectivity. The exhibition Follow My, Folloy My, Lead… questions societal narratives, gestures and structures connected to leadership, role models, and strategies of submission and representation.
