Hélène Fauquet. Nuit de Cellophane

Einladung: Hélène Fauquet. Nuit de Cellophane. 2024

09.02.2024 - 16.03.2024

Ulrik, New York / United States

Ulrik presents Nuit de Cellophane, a photographic essay by Hélène Fauquet in the form of nine table-sized sculptures.

The works are arranged buffet-style in the gallery, as they command the contractions and expansions of the retina. Fauquet’s pictures capture photogenic moments of surface tension, repeated in abundance, persistently enumerating infinite configurations of fluid matter: a taxonomy of the Great Chaos.

A bubble is a globule of gas surrounded by fluid while a droplet is a globule of fluid surrounded by gas.... They are made visible by their separation, a thin-film membrane that diffracts and reflects light. Prisoners of their own transparency, the bubbles and drops hesitate to disappear, telescope one another, and coagulate in small groups of still life.

Every existence is an expansion, beings diversify and become more complex, without losing anything of their original nature. This essence is represented by the artist as a blob of pure presence, a concentrate of abstract beauty. A viscous mass that is also the central aesthetic and moral value.
