After the Act. Die Inszenierung der Performancekunst

After the Act setzt sich mit der Beziehung der Performancekunst zu ihren Dokumentationsformen und ihrer Rezeptionsgeschichte vom Live-Event zur "cultural commodity" auseinander. Konträr zu ihrer ursprünglich manifestierten aktionistischen und aktivistischen Natur ist die Performancekunst durch ihre Reproduktion, Archivierung und Historisierung zu einer objekt- und bildhaften Kunstform geworden. Die aktuelle Auseinandersetzung mit der Performancekunst im Ausstellungswesen, Kunstmarkt und kunstwissenschaftlichem Diskurs basiert auf einer Unmenge von Dokumentationsmaterial, die als "erste Geschichtsebene" verstanden werden kann.... Die rezeptive Abhängigkeit der Performance von ihren Bilddokumenten macht sie zu einer prozessualen Kunstgattung, die nicht mit dem authentischen Erleben des Ereignisses endet, sondern sich im Laufe ihrer Rezeptionsgeschichte weiterentwickelt. Die Geschichte der Performance, ihrer Medien und ProtagonistInnen, die sich "nach der Show" wieder erneut in bewegten und stillen Bildern versammeln, steht im Zentrum von "After the Act".

After the Act addresses the relationship between performance art, documentary, and its development from live event to "cultural commodity". Contrary to its originally actionist and activist nature, performance art has acquired an object and image oriented dimension through reproduction, archiving and historical perspective. The current interest in perfromance art evicent in exhibitions, the art market, and in art theoretical discourse draws on a wealth of documentary material that may be understood as a "first historical stratum". The discursive dependency of the performance vis-à-vis its pictorial documentation converts its into a procedural art form that transcends the end of the authentic experience and lives on in the subsequent history of its reception. After the Act focuses on the history of the performance, its mediums and protagonists, reunited in stil or moving images catching them "after" the act.
