The PRO ARTE Institute has been organizing the “CONTEMPORARY ART IN TRADITIONAL MUSEUM” Festival for a number of years already gradually encouraging the visitor to develop a new understanding of those two notions. Modern artists can and do take root in traditional museums engaging the previously unexploited creative potential of the half-forgotten museums and thus preventing them from stagnation in their traditionalist environment and paving the way for various audiences.
Inevitably, in their turn, museums begin to exert influence on modern artists....
The project of Marina Alekseeva is based on the impressions from traditional exhibitions mounted in traditional museums that are easily identifiable as such almost at first sight. The museum interiors are done in the traditional for museums technique of light-boxes. The models are placed in the space of the PRO ARTE Institute that is firmly associated with contemporary art. The doll-like scale together with unusual for such “structures” materials and technologies play a special role in arousing the visitor’s emotions (those of tenderness and the joy of recognition). So traditional museums are introduced into the space of contemporary art thus creating a mirror reflection of the project – “CONTEMPORARY ART in TRADITIONAL MUSUEM”.
