Expect the Unexpected

Überraschung! Glück oder Unglück? Auf jeden Fall ist Neues überraschend; doch was hier neu, ist für dort völlig uninteressant. Innovation ist nicht absolut. Daher sei einmal nach konkreten Vorstellungen vom Neuen gefragt, und jeweils seiner Bedeutung im gesell-schaftlich Allgemeinen. Was ist in den unterschiedlichen Bereichen, als neu und innovativ zu verstehen? Lohnt der Entwurf einer Ökonomie des Neuen? Geht es um schneller, höher, weiter und neuer? Geht es immer darum origineller zu sein, was ist der Preis? Kurz, ist Innovation ein verklausulierter Begriff für einen Wettbewerb, an dem man eventuell gar nicht teilhaben möchte? Ja, Wissenschafts- und Kunstprozesse sind eingebettet in Interessen und Erwartungen, aber macht deren Erfüllung sodann den sogenannten „Erfolg“ aus? Was sind die Alternativen, kann man das Unerwartete erwarten? Besinnung, Entsagung, Rückzug? Konzentration? Zerstreuung? Geht es eventuell gerade deshalb um die Schaffung eines neuen Entfaltungsraumes, so offen wie möglich so eng wie nötig? Lassen wir uns (noch) überraschen, gehen wir das Risiko der Innovation ein, erwarten wir das Unerwartete....

Surprise, surprise! Is it a blessing or does it do harm? Either way surprise implies something new – yet, always pursuing the new can also get boring. Innovation does not imply something absolute. This is the reason why we ask for specific ideas in order to create something new in the context of society. What do the terms newand innovative mean for all the different professional areas? Does it pay off to design an economy of the new? Does it always have to be about faster, higher, further ... and newer? Is it about being more original than others? And what is the price we have to pay for it? Does the term innovation stand for the sort of competition we don’t want to be part of? Yes, processes in scienes and arts are embedded into interests and expectations. Yet, reaching our goals, does this make us successful? Are there any alternatives? Can we expect the unexpected? Can we reflect on, draw back, pull out or rebel against? To we have to focus more or get distracted? Trying to answer these questions could be the reason why we are looking for a new space in which we are able to create, as free as possible yet as limited as need be. Let’s (still) get surprised. Let’s take the risk of being innovative – let’s expect the unexpected.
