P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Museum of Contemporary Art

since 1990
Ljubljana / Slovenija

P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Museum of Contemporary Art is a mobile organism and a critical model, which takes over merely the exterior form and name of the cultural institution. Its operation is oriented into the analysis and deconstruction of the symbolic centres of power and the search for parallel models of cultural, economic and social operation. The P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Museum of Contemporary Art establishes inter-specific relations with institutions and social groups in order to enforce changes in the operation with the analysis of relations and actions within the systems.... In the same way as a parasite in nature, which as a rule fulfils its life conditions only in a direct relation to its host the P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. museum takes over territories, chooses spaces, interrupts relations and gets fed by the juices of institutions.

The P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Museum of Contemporary Art (PMCA) was founded by artist Tadej Pogacar. In 1990 he founded Museum of Contemporary Art, which was later, in 1993, renamed The P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Museum of Contemporary Art. In connection to the Museum he developed method called the new parasitism.
