Installation at Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art South-African artist Meintjes lives temporarily in Europe in order to realize a number of projects connected with the mutual past of Europe and Africa. Plates and explanatory texts illustrate the subject "Imperial Plants". Mainly by archive photographs it focuses on the history of the colonial trading commodity Cinchona, a tree from which quinine is won. Also shown are photographs of the Van Riebeeck-hedge, which was plated in Capetown in 1660. (Text: Manifesta)
