Das neue, erweiterte Ars Electronica Center öffnet am 2. Jänner 2009 seine Türen und lädt Sie zwischen 2. und 4. Jänner 2009 zu ersten, kostenlosen Streifzügen durch das neue Haus.
3000 Quadratmeter für Ausstellungen, 1000 für Forschung und Entwicklung, 400 für Seminare und Konferenzen, 650 Quadratmeter Gastronomie und Veranstaltungsräumlichkeiten sowie 1000 Quadratmeter Maindeck für Openair-Events, Donau- und Innenstadtblick inklusive. Nicht zuletzt seine LED-Fassadenbeleuchtung erhebt das Haus auch von außen zum Kunstwerk.
Mit dem Neubau schlägt Ars Electronica ein weiteres Kapitel seiner 30jährigen Erfolgsgeschichte auf.
Das neue Ars Electronica Center besticht neben seiner neuen Architektur auch durch seine neuen Inhalte und Vermittlungsformen: Unter dem Motto Hands on setzt das neue Ars Electronica Center verstärkt auf die aktive Einbeziehung der BesucherInnen in eine künstlerisch-wissenschaftliche Spurensuche. Das Ergebnis: ein Museum der Zukunft mit weltweit einzigartigem Laborcharakter.
In der Themenausstellung Neue Bilder vom Menschen werden in Form von Schwerpunktlabors und künstlerischen Projekten vielfältige Zugänge zu Robotik, Biotechnologie und Neurowissenschaften geboten und unser Welt- und Menschenbild insgesamt in Frage gestellt.
Weitere Ausstellungen zeigen eine Retrospektive über 20 Jahre Medienkunst und -design von ART+COM, widmen sich in Die Poesie der Bewegung Beispielen kinetischer Kunst und schaffen mit Funky Pixels eine interaktive Erlebniswelt für Kinder ab 3 Jahren. Der DEEP SPACE lädt zu Reisen in die Sphären des mit dem menschlichen Auge nicht Erreichbaren, Reisen in die Vergangenheit oder an fantastische Orte. Ermöglicht durch acht Projektoren auf zwei Projektionsflächen von je 16x9 Metern auf Wand und Boden.

The spacious new Ars Electronica Center will be opening its doors on January 2, 2009. We cordially invite you to take a free tour of the new facility at an Open House January 2-4. 3,000 m2 for exhibitions, 1,000 for R&D, 400 for seminars and conferences, 650 for food and beverage service and catering as well as a 1,000-m2 Maindeck for open-air events with a great view of the Danube and downtown Linz. With its LED façade lighting system the new AEC’s exterior is a work of art too.
The debut of this spectacular addition to the Linz cityscape opens the next chapter of Ars Electronica’s 30-year success story.
The new Ars Electronica Center makes an impressive statement architecturally and functionally as well, with lots of new content and innovative ways of presenting it. The watchwords are hands on: the new Ars Electronica Center focuses even more intensively on getting visitors actively involved in an artistic-scientific journey of discovery. Bottom line: the Museum of the Future with its lab-like character is like nothing else in the world.
New Views of Humankind, the theme exhibition featuring focal-point laboratories and artistic projects, offers a wide array of approaches to robotics, biotechnology and the neurosciences. What visitors see with crystal clarity is how our ways of looking at the world and its human inhabitants are undergoing profound changes right now.
Other exhibits include a retrospective look at 20 years of media art and design by ART+COM, and an encounter with examples of kinetic art entitled The Poetry of Movement. Funky Pixels is an interactive world of experience for kids age 3 and up. DEEP SPACE invites guests to journey into realms inaccessible by the human eye, to travel into the past, and to embark on an excursion to fantastic destinations. Eight projectors and two 16x9-meter ultra-high-resolution projection surfaces mounted on the walls and in the floor make for an unforgettable trip.
