Continuing with their Viennese Season, Richard Saltoun gallery presents an exhibition dedicated to Austrian feminism. Seminal works to be included are VALIE EXPORT’s self-portrait Smart / Export II (1968/70) and Friedl Kubelka-Bondy’s series of Pin-Ups from the 1970s. Both artists use their bodies as well as the medium of documentary photography to subvert the traditional notion of the ‘great male artist’. Whereas the Actionists challenged the mythology of traditional art mediums (painting and sculpture), these feminist artists chose to challenge the hierarchy of the art establishment itself....
