A Tale of Two Cities

A Tale of Two Cities does not refer to the book by Charles Dickens but combines the latest works „Milan. City, I listen to your heart“ by Giovanna Silva and „The City without Qualities“ by Wolfgang Lehrner.

The two artists (both born in 1980) explore two different cities, inspired by two different writers, Alberto Savinio and Robert Musil, sharing decades of exploration of the urban metropolis and a never-ending wanderlust.

Giovanna Silva and Wolfgang Lehrner are flaneurs and „practitioners of the city“: A city is a language, a repository of possibilities, and walking is the act of speaking that language, of selecting from those possibilities.... Just as language limits what can be said, architecture limits where one can walk, but the walker invents other ways to go.*

In search of their own path, their own secret, they created - as wanderers of imagination - thousands of images and two individual narratives. With some of the same grammar, but a strong dialect, the outcome speaks for itself: A metaphorical and indirect journey that shows us something we may never have seen before in such a fascinating way.
