Beschreibung

Zosia Hołubowska are sound artist and a queer activist, a member of the Oramics collective and the co-founder of Sounds Queer?, a knowledge sharing investigative collective. Their practice is deeply rooted in Slavic folklore, healing rituals and queer as metholody of composing music.
As Zosia Hołubowska, they explore sound design and performance art, working at the intersection of experimental music, theatre and new media art. In 2023 they released album Singing Warmia on Exiles. Singing Warmia is an attempt to deal with the lack of family archives and the inability to establish a relationship with the place of birth. Instead of family stories, the album's material is photos of the artist's favorite places around Olsztyn (the capital city of Warmia region), which were sonified using processes designed by the artists.
In 2020 they premiered Community of Grieving—a collaboration with Julia Giertz—turned into a live show that debuted in 2021 at Unsound Festival in Kraków. Conceived during the pandemic, it’s an audio ritual drawing on lament and vesper traditions as a choreographed sonic meditation.
They have performed at Mumok (Vienna, AT) and Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao, ES), Evelate Festival, Fluff Festival, Popfest or Punctum Krasovka (CZ) among other places, and their project Community of Grieving recorded together with Julia Giertz was presented at Unsound 2020 (Kraków, PL) and has its live premiere at Unsound 2021 (Kraków, PL), Elevate Festival 2022 (Graz, AU) and Dark Mofo 2023 (Tasmania, AUS).
In addition to their own performance, Zosia Hołubowska is also the author of Mala Herba, an experimental solo music project that combines post folk, EBM and techno.
