Beschreibung

“Pavilhão de Portugal” offers an insight into present-day Portuguese painting and drawing. Portugal is not just geographically in a marginal position, the international art market pays hardly any attention to the country. Single-mindedly and only moderately influenced by current trends, very individual artistic oeuvres are developing. The result is strangely beautiful and profound works that reveal old and new, contemporary and anachronistic influences.
The current generation of painters makes little use of Portuguese history such as the colonial past, and there are few autobiographical elements. Primarily, the observation of the immediate surroundings, the social environment, the analysis of personalities with circumspect precision or the philosophical considerations play an important role in the creation of art.
