"The background for ‚Studies of Utopia‘ is based on Frank Lloyd Wright’s model for Broadacre City – his concept of the idea of a living environment. Above the basic pattern fly three aeroplanes which refer simultaneously to several ideas – a notion of space, a hint of autobiography, and an undertone of politics. The landscape is etched, then hand-tinted. The aeroplanes are etched seperately, then cut out and applied to each print. The position of the aeroplanes is altered on each individual graphic creating a series of unique finished work.” (Artist’s statement, 1983)
