The exhibition HÉRNA ['ç?rdna, adv. here, that is, now...] in Hangar-7 in Salzburg shows contemporary painting by seven artists from Iceland. With only 300,000 inhabitants, Europe’s second largest island nation, a bit out of the way in the North Atlantic, is only very sparsely populated. The arts scene is indeed within manageable limits, but distinguishes itself through a multiplicity of independent and unmistakeable positions.
The title of the exhibition, Hérna, is a frequently used word in Icelandic usage.... It stands for “here, that is, now”, or is employed as a filler. In connection with Icelandic art, Hérna means immediacy and topicality. It expresses the moment, the present. This present also plays an important role in current painting.

['ç?rdna / dt.: hier, also, jetzt…]“ im. Europas zweitgrößter Inselstaat, abseits im Nordatlantik gelegen, ist mit 300.000 Einwohnern nur dünn besiedelt. Die Kunstszene ist zwar überschaubar, zeichnet sich aber durch eine Vielzahl eigenständiger und unverwechselbarer Positionen aus.
Der Ausstellungstitel „Hérna“ ist ein häufig benutztes Wort im isländischen Sprachgebrauch. Es steht für „hier, also, jetzt“ oder wird als Füllwort verwendet. „Hérna“ meint im Zusammenhang mit isländischer Kunst Unmittelbarkeit und Aktualität, es drückt den Moment, die Gegenwart aus. Auch in der aktuellen Malerei spielt diese Gegenwart eine gewichtige Rolle.
